Prasidh Krishna Replaces Mohammed Siraj for Ireland and England T20Is

In huge news ahead of the T20I tours of Ireland and England, India has replaced Mohd Siraj in the squad with fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. The news on Siraj was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), saying he has been rested under a plan to manage the players workload. This decision will allow the team management to closely track pacer’s fitness given an international schedule packed full throttle ahead.

Siraj is one of the most consistent all-format fast bowlers for India in recent times and was included in the squad announced for the white-ball tour originally. But later, the BCCI medical team spoke to the management of the team and it was concluded that a rest may do well for the Hyderabad pacer. The decision underlines India’s increasing emphasis on workload management and injury prevention with a surfeit of cricket in an already congested season.

Prasidh Krishna is back in the T20I setup for the first time since 2021, having replaced Siraj. The Karnataka pacer has shown no signs of rust, with his pace, bounce and ability to extract extra carry from a good length. The pacer has also had his fair share of impressive performances for India in the white-ball format and has kept himself in good books for national selection with his domestic & international outings.

Counting down to its tour is a first two-match T20I series against Ireland, followed by a five-match T20I contest in England. Shreyas Iyer also leads a formidable squad which includes the likes of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who earned his first senior call-up following an impressive IPL season.

For Prasidh, the stint is an opportunity to solidify his position in India T20 plans alongside bowlers like Arshdeep Singh and augment pace attack options. Yes, India will feel the absence of Siraj but they can hope fresh legs in Prasidh can give them some raring to go firepower against two challenging opponents.
